Hi, I have just updated to the new v2.5 of Wordpress. I am having some trouble with the new image uploader/gallery.

OK so this actually happened over a month ago now, but I didn’t have a blog then and it was pretty interesting, so I thought it was worth putting some photos up of it. I have a couple of videos of the 22 ton truck in action against the old outside toilet. It didn’t last long. If I can be bothered I might upload them to youtube and post them on here.

The first picture shows the 22 ton beast in action and below are some of the early stages, when they had salvaged a load of the wood from the house, including the roof beams, and finally the finished block.

OK I stumbled across this image on the web the other day (I think it originates from the Daily Telegraph newspaper Sydney). It is a picture of a spinning woman, but there is a catch – she can be seen to spin both clockwise and anticlockwise.

The theory is that those who see the image spinning clockwise predominantly use the right side of the brain and are more “free thinkers”, whereas those who see the image spinning anti-clockwise use the left side of the brain and are more logic based thinkers.

When I first look at the image I generally see it spinning clockwise, which is not at all what I would expect. If I look away and back at the image repeatedly I can generally see it spin anti-clockwise also.

Just thought this may be interesting to look at.

Perth hosted the finale of the Red Bull Air Race, which for those not aware its those little propellar powered plans that fly really fast through the inflated pylons (apparently called air gates). Anyway it was pretty cool to [photopress:Chopper.jpg, thumb, alignright]see up close, especially the TV helicopter that would follow them in to land and be tailgating the aircraft. This was going on almost directly above our heads. That and the fact that during the race the planes are reaching about 400km/hr, got us thinking ‘wow I bet they would take out a load of people if the pilot lost control and crashed into the grandstand full of people thats all of 100m away’.

Don’t get me wrong I enjoyed the spectacle, but isn’t this the era of overkill in safety. I mean there’s warning notices telling you if you stick you head in a plastic bag you might suffocate, and silicon bags saying dont eat me!
